When I was little, I remember wanting to grow up as fast as I could so I could drive cars, play in the NBA, and marry Mandy Moore. Now college is over. The real world has come. I am definitely still looking forward to this new chapter in my life, but the mystique and glory that it once held is definitely not there anymore.
Work is approaching fast and soon, as it's already August. What did I do with my whole summer? Everyone went off on grand adventures to faraway lands, partying it up, and I spent this summer saving? When I was little, money did not have any real meaning to me, I had no idea that practically everythign cost money. My GIJoe action figures, my Optimus Prime Transformer, or even my prized Sesame Street Model Set. Since this past year, I have attempted to be financially independent, it has truly been a test and a new learning experience that has defintiely made me approach life differently.
As August is approaching faster and faster, I have decided to make a vow to myself to live up life to the fullest from this point forward. Of course, being responsible at times is just a necessary part of growing older, but it should not be how I should be defined. I will attempt to cleanse my life of the bad relationships that you sometimes have, and strengthen the bonds that I do have. Thus, I hope this creates a surrounding atmosphere of happiness, support, and camaraderie and will lead to great things.
In the meantime...here are a few get rich quick strategies: ESPN Streak for Cash, Bank of America stock rising to $2000/share, or working on my bod to marry rich.

Memorable College Songs
Throughout college, I feel like there have been songs that left an imprint of that particular time period for me. I will also list the people that I most associate with each of these songs:
Keak da Sneak - Superhyphy, Summer before Freshman Year (Sahil Amoli, Michael Mizono)
T-Pain - I'm Sprung, Freshman Year First Semester (Emon, Michael Mizono)
Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down, Freshmen Year First Semester (Stephanie Wei and Yang from Texas, attempting to give me an actual interpretation of a senseless song)
Ne-Yo - Love Song, Freshman Year Second Semester (Just a song that was on my Ipod during a 22-unit semester)
Chazmillionaire - Ridin, Freshman Year Summer (Albert Yen, Sahil Amoli, Chris Barker, Cody Poletti, Christopher Chen, not Daniel Wright)
Nelly Furtado - Promiscous Girl, Freshman Year Summer (Crazy Summer Apartment Party)
Richie Ren - Kan Guo Lai, Sophomore Year Second Semester (Truman, Arthur, Shan, Christine Lee, Steph Chen, Howard, and whoever else went to Chinese karaoke night and isolated me and Daniel into drunk oblivion)
Akon - Bartender, Sophomore Year Summer (Jing Xu)
Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah, Sophomore Year Summer (Jing Xu, Mark Mi, Kristina Shen, Shan Hu)
Colby Odonis - What You Got, Junior Year First Semester (Jimmy Ton, obviously x100, #1 most played song on Itunes)
Lady Gaga - Just Dance, Junior Year Second Semester (Jimmy Ton, again obviously)
Senior Year songs are too many, so I will just list some of the notables. The senior summer group is too extensive, as it was truly an adventure the last few months of school.
Akon - Right Now
Akon ft. E-40 - Wake It Up
Common - Make Her Say
Lady Gaga - Poker Face
Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
Daft Punk - One More Time
Coldplay - Viva la Vida
Aster Roth - I Love College
Some Korean Singer - My Sassy Girl song
Jason Mraz - I'm Yours (Andrew Wang succeeded by Michael Chen at every possible TBG retreat)
Keak da Sneak - Superhyphy, Summer before Freshman Year (Sahil Amoli, Michael Mizono)
T-Pain - I'm Sprung, Freshman Year First Semester (Emon, Michael Mizono)

911 Challenge
Being a growing young lad, I have been known to attempt dumb adventures in my life. One of these instances was during high school and my freshman year of college when I would routinely order Global Thermo Nuclear chicken wings at University Chicken (aka Cluck U, aka Smoke Eaters).
Today, I saw someone attempt the 911 Challenge while enjoying some mildly spicy wings with my friend Daniel. He wore goggles to keep the spiciness out of his eyes, brought a cameraman to film the experience, and mockingly took pictures of the chicken wings prior to eating them. This is probably what his picture of chicken wings looks like:

If this does not look appetizing to you, it is because it is not. It is the most evil batch of chicken wings to man. The smell alone made everyone focused on this man attempting this challenge.
The Challenge is: Finish a 12 piece meal of the spiciest level (now known as the Inferno) within 15 minutes and keep it down for 5 minutes afterward.
The host from Man v. Food was able to do it, but he must have edited the film because I have never seen anyone come close. Today's challenger was the same, as he ate four pieces, then seemed to self-destruct. He went on to puke three times in the bathroom and one time came out of the bathroom with his pants unbuttoned to get a 2-gallon jug of milk and returned to the bathroom with it.
Thus, the moral of this story is try this challenge if you dare. But, be careful, I think that if you try this more than once, you will be in for an unpleasant surprise when the chicken exits your body...

Enriching Life Through Media: TV, books, and movies
Living in Sunnyvale (the nation's third safest city, don't ask me where I got this fact because it is something I have been told since I moved here from Cupertino), you have to really work hard to find some sources of entertainment. So, I will list some of the tv shows, books, and movies that I have been investing my time with and maybe it will help alleviate some times of boredom for you as well.
1. Freaks and G
eeks (1999-2000)
This series was the first created by Judd Apatow (who was the genius behind 40-Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up) and features funny guys Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, and James Franco. This TV show is awesome and I was recommended this show by another TV buff and is definitely the best show that you have never heard of.
2. Undeclared (2001-2002)
This is Judd Apatow's second TV show. To be honest, it has its moments, but is definitely nowhere the level of Freaks and Geeks. It is just a TV show about college, and decent shows about college are rare. Also, it makes me really miss the great times of college: Welcome Week, dorms, and overall good buddies.
3. The Truman Show (1998)

I know this is an older film, but I have not seen it until recently. This is a sad and trippy film that really is thought-provoking and one of the best movies that I have ever seen. Even if you are not a Jim Carrey fan, this is not a typical Jim Carrey role, so if you have not seen it, watch it! If you have seen it, it is such a good movie, I would recommend watching this again and I hate rewatching movies for the most part.
4. In N Out Burger (2009) - Stacy Perman

While working for EasySpoon this past semester, I met many people who had just completed my phase in the life cycle as a young professional and were attempting entrepreneurial ideas. For anyone thinking about ever running their own business or needing of an idea on how to manage their current professional life, this story about how In N Out Burger built its successes certainly gives you 'food for thought'.
I will try to be more efficient and offer more ideas for entertainment soon.

First Journal of Any Kind
As the subject states, this is my first journal of any kind, but living at home has given me a significant amount of time to try new things. So here we go...
It has been nearly a month and a half since I graduated from Berkeley, and it has just shown me thus far that the time I had in college was surreal, and something that I did not fully appreciate. In college, I was given a free pass on every mistake that I made: skipping a class, bombing an interview, doing poorly on an exam, and even living a lifestyle that no ordinary human (even Jlau) should ever attempt to live.
Moving back to Sunnyvale to live at home for the next year has been a blast from the past. I have been attempting to retrace what I had done before going off into the four year time capsule of college. Where did I go to have a good lunch? Where did I take people when they came to visit? Even remembering the most efficient routes to my friends' houses has definitely made me feel as if I have just returned from a long adventure to the familiarities of home.
However, everyone is different and moving toward different paths in our lives. Most of my friends are staying in their neighborhoods near their respective colleges and others are expanding to new parts of the country. I should be excited for them, but a part of me still wishes that the good times did not always have to change. Although we are all turning a new chapter in our lives, I understand that as we are growing older, each passing chapter will be more solitary than the next (I guess until marriage arrives). I am excited and nervous at the same time for this prospect, as work is less than four weeks away now. After talking to Jason (Lee) about how his work is going, I am going to try and maximize the time I have left and will try to keep this blog updated as well.
That is the conclusion of my first post and hopefully I will have more entertaining anecdotes later.
